Behind the frame
SCROLL
Dinant Evasion
14 March 2025
Looking back at a shoot… underground. Literally.
A few months ago, Dinant Évasion challenged us with a rather unusual request:
to put into images one of their most immersive activities… caving.
- Meeting point: Namur
- Depth: –50 metres
- Comfort: zero
To tell the experience in a realistic way, we worked with three protagonists:
- two guides,
- one “visitor”,
in order to faithfully recreate the route, the movements and the sensations.
The real challenge?
Photographing in total darkness.
With passages that were sometimes extremely narrow… then suddenly opening up into vast chambers.
To achieve this, we combined flash and continuous lighting in order to:
- reveal volumes,
- guide the viewer’s eye,
- while respecting the raw, mineral atmosphere of the caves.
Each image required thought and precision: placing the light, securing the equipment, anticipating movements, composing with the space.
Nothing is automatic. Everything is controlled.
At Melting Prod, we like playgrounds that fall outside the usual frame.
Because they are often the ones that tell the strongest stories.
A project off the beaten track?
We’re already in.
